Grimsby teachers Sam Stenton and Aaron Lewis are developing A-Level Up, an app aimed at aiding A-Level maths students in exam preparation. The new app will guide students towards relevant questions, helping them identify and fill knowledge gaps efficiently.

Building Pre-Foundations in Mathematics

This project, led by the Three Saints Trust in Merseyside, involves working in collaboration with nurseries, PVIs, and parents  to empower adults to support children’s mathematical development. They are shown how best to help children develop early maths skills, with a focus on numbers, patterns, and sequencing.

Diagnostic Maths Assessment

Maths teacher Joanne de Groot, from Our Lady of Pity RC Primary, Greasby, has developed a fresh new way to test maths ability in the classroom, aiming to help primary school teachers pinpoint exactly where children need support. Her Diagnostic Maths Assessment tool measures primary school children’s strengths and weaknesses across ten key curriculum areas.

Dynamic Representations

Maths teachers Jayne Webster and Caroline Peters are developing a digital platform, Dynamic Representations, which aims to bring maths to life for secondary school pupils, reducing anxiety and making concepts easier to understand. The platform features interactive digital versions of familiar classroom tools – such as plastic blocks and rods, known as manipulatives – to help students visualise and understand maths concepts and show the deep connections between number and algebra.

Mathematical CPD Library

Sam Tallintire, from Southmoor Academy in Sunderland, is developing an online platform offering short, high-quality video tutorials aimed at boosting maths teachers’ confidence and subject expertise. The Mathematical CPD Library provides quick, targeted tutorials – typically under 10 minutes long – tailored to the curriculum. These bite-sized lessons allow teachers to choose specific topics they want to improve, track their progress, and build confidence one step at a time.

Amy How, a teacher trainer based in West Yorkshire, uses the innovative rekenrek – a wooden counting frame similar to an abacus – to transform number sense among young children.

Prodigy

Middlesbrough secondary school teacher Jonny Foster is developing an idea that will help students transfer knowledge and skills between maths and science and to make connections between their lessons and the real world. He is creating animated lessons that students can access online. He will build a profile of the students’ interests and their likes, and then deliver questions that are relatable to them.

Story Time Maths

Led by Dane Bank Primary School, in Tameside, this project aims to close the achievement gap for disadvantaged children through a storybook-based maths curriculum. It focuses on developing nursery-level maths skills, strengthening communication for school readiness, training practitioners, and empowering parents to support maths through storytelling.
